WHAT WOULD YOU LEAVE BEHIND?

We spend a lifetime becoming someone. Yet our final words are often reduced to a name, two dates and a generic sentence. Isn’t there more to say?
Living near a cemetery, I’m often struck by how little gravestone inscriptions reveal about the people behind them. So much personality and life condensed into a few conventional words. Yet we are so much more than that.
EPITAPH is an invitation to change that.
Part of my artist-in-residence exhibition at @CC Bruges, this installation is not about morbidity, but about celebrating life and all the unexpected things that make us human.
Imagine today was your last day. What would you want people to remember?
A piece of wisdom? A favourite quote? A confession, a joke, a question? Something profound, funny or completely spontaneous?

ADD YOUR EPITAPH.
The wall currently features 136 printed epitaphs, collected to inspire you. Next to it, a box invites visitors to submit their own handwritten contribution. As a little thank-you, you’ll receive an artist postcard in return.
Together, these submissions form an ever-growing mosaic of personal messages: a vibrant testament to authenticity.
You might find yourself amused, moved, puzzled or inspired by the words of someone you know — or someone you’ll never meet. And perhaps someone will feel the same about yours.
YOUR WORDS DON’T END HERE.

Submissions will be collected and incorporated into the next iteration of the installation, planned for TRIBRU27. Who knows? You might even spot your contribution there!
Come along, take a moment, pick up a pen and leave something behind.
